The AR6 pistol: A pistol with the power to take a jack at 100 yards with no problem

A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from ARS in New York and as soon as I said hello i heard the person on the other end of the phone become very excited.  He said ” Stephan, you’re not going to believe what I just found. I lend forward in my chair and said  ” What,…….WHAT!. And he said” remember a while ago I told you that I did’nt have anymore AR6 pistols well, I was looking through  some old boxes and found two of them”, I think they are the ones I let someone do an article on and when they came back I never open the box.”  We talked for a few minutes then he told me the price and I made the deal right there.

Last week, I received the guns. ( they are very well made)  As whenever I get a gun I always take it out and try to put air in it. Both of the guns took air. ( all the way to 3000 psi) I decided to take the pistol’s to the range. I have a shorter one and it was  pushing 44 fpe so I thought that it may do about the same. When I shot the 28.6 grain pellets of the chrony, they were doing 980-972 fps! on the first cylinder full!. The next cylinder was down to 960-942 fps! and after I got it kinda shooting OK ( I have to shoot 2″ to the right to hit the target at 25 yards) you could cover a cylinder full on target with a quarter. After doing the #’s  the first cylinder avg 976 fps and that is; 60.50 fpe! from a pistol! (well, it is a large pistol though) I have’nt shot the other one yet but if it has this kind of power, I don’t know what I will do.  If my career707 can reach out there and hit jacks at over a hundred yards, then I know that this pistol ( in the right hands, may not be mine) should be able to take a jack at the same distance. Will keep you posted.

  1. Is the AR6 pistol the same as the Evanix hunting master AR6 .22 cal pistol? Or is the one that Pyramid Air sells now the newer model or updated version of the one you have on the slide show? Also does any one know if the Evanix AR6 .22 cal Hunting Master pistol a hard shooting pcp pistol? Like I want to use it for hunting small game but where I live people have been robbing homes in my neighborhood even with the people at home so they are some violent and dangerouse indivisuals. I’m a MMA fighter and a long time amateure boxer and coach but I have a new baby girl with my son and lovely wife and If I ever need to defend my family from more than one intruder would the Evanix hunting master .22 cal be a good and powerful enough source to protect my family? I figured since it is a 6 shot revolver I would have follow up shots if needed in a life or death situation. But first and foremost I am an air gun and big bore and pcp enthusiast who loves to hunt wild boars and shoot 2×4s for target practice but I just wanted something smaller that I could use when I don’t feel like taking my bigger 909s into the back yard which I never feel that way anyways but something like a pcp pistol that shoots 6 shots at a time would be sweet. So please don’t get any wrong ideas whoever reads this because I’m just taking about protection for my household just in case. GOD forbid that it’ll ever come to a situation like that. If anyone has any feed back please share about the Evanix 22 Huntig Master pcp pistol. Thanks and apreciate it much. Thank you and GOD bless.

  2. Hey Kerry..whats up?
First let me say this to you. To protect your family from intruders, I would find a good pistol that I can shoot accuratley. With that said,
The Evanix in my opinion is not as powerful as the original AR6 pistols. I have AR6 pistol smaller version in addition to the one in the pictures. The smaller one puts out 44fpe for 6 shots.
Although the Evanix appears to be the same pistol, in my belief its not. Here’s why:
When they first came out with the original AR6 pistol, it was because people wanted a pistol that had the power of a AR6 Hunting Master. What David Swessinger (the original importer of AR6 pistols) secretley did was to have a run of 10 AR6 pistols put in with AR6 rifles covertly. Those original 10 were nothing more than a cutdown version of the AR6 Hunting Master. It has the same valve and everything! Just simply as shorter barrel. The Evanix doesnt have the same valve or power as the original. The old AR6 pistol, pushes a 28.9 grain pellet at 54 fpe. Whereas, the Evanix will be hardpressed to get 30-35 fpe.
Thanks for reading my blog, sometimes I’m slow at responding but I do read and so does my wife.

Until then, keep your tank and a pellet loaded.

  3. Thanks for some of the history on the AR6 pistol. I picked up the newer model back in may ‘08 and after the first shot i was hooked! I started with a leapers red/green dot scope/sighting system which i sighted in easy in about 15 minutes. I started out at 10 meters and can keep the shots inside a dime off a bench rest. I also moved the target out to 30 meters and iwam shooting inside of a quarter when i can hold it on target. This pistol will out shoot most people that for sure! I’ve been having a great time learning the gun but with this s.e. Texas July heat i can’t wait for fall to cool things off a bit and try a little rabbit and squirrel hunting with my AR6 hunting master. So far i found it loves beeman crow mags 18.2 grain and also shoots eunjin 28.4 grain at the same scope setting at closer ranges. I have also found the pellets with larger skirt diameters work better in the ar6 cylinder 0.225-0.228 are the best range to use. The crow mags are 0.228 and the eunjin are 0.225. If their too small in diameter a pellet can slide out of the cylinder and into the barrel, then when you cock the hammer and the cylinder revolves to the next pellet it will shoot both pellets at the same time. Needless to say not good, so i stick with pellets with the larger diameters like the ones above and beeman ramjet wt. 14.76 diameter 0.228, beeman silver sting wt.15.74 diameter 0.228, beeman silver arrow wt.17.1 diameter 0.227, beeman Kodiak wt.21.0 diameter 0.227, logun penetrator wt.16.0 diameter 0.227 ect. I have’nt tried all these pellets out yet but i will in the near future. They should fit snug and hopefully the accuracy will be good. I also have a sampler pack of different Germany pellets on their way to also try. What about you any favorite pellets for your AR6? Have a good one, Bill2
